The First We've Been Busy!!! Since the beginning of this sorority year, Lambda Sigma Sigma Alumnae chapter has been making strides. So far this year we have installed a new Executive Board, welcomed many new members and created a plan to continue our pursuit of excellence and love for our great sisterhood in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
In October, the chapter hosted its 4th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Zumbathon at Piedmont Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia. A free event for breast cancer survivors where Soror P. Paulette Bragg was the Zumba Instructor and coordinator. Soror Sylvia Cook was a participant in the 3 day Susan G. Komen event in San Diego, California where she walked 60 miles in honor of her mother who is a breast cancer survivor.
In November, Lambda Sigma Sigma along with the men of Zeta Mu Nu Alumni Chapter of Omega Psi Phi hosted its inaugural “Cigars and Stilettos Founders' Celebration”. This collaborative effort was created with a common goal to raise funds for community initiatives and the development of scholarship programs for both organizations. This event was by far one of the most memorable moments of 2016. This historical celebration was held at Eagle’s Landing Country Club where the ambiance of elegance and excitement filled a room of over 200 people who gathered in honor of our Founders’ and our collective goal to serve our community and make a difference. Throughout the event there was food, dancing, networking and so much more that made this event a huge success with the hopes of returning next year.
Also in November, chapter sorors' sponsored a lunch for the children and staff at A Friend’s House, a non-profit shelter for children in Henry County who have become one of our community partners. Other highlights include collecting over 100 pounds of food that was distributed to food banks within Henry and Rockdale Counties, collectively volunteering over 22 hours of community service and participating in various community awareness programs such as March of Dimes, St. Jude’s Cancer Research, and AIDS/HIV Awareness.
During this time of year joy and happiness is being shared all around the world and we are grateful to be active participants in uplifting our community and continuing the legacy of “Greater Service, Greater Progress”.
Lambda Sigma Sigma is poised to do great things this year and will continue to “Stand up and Stand out through Sisterhood, Service and Scholarship” and as a symbol of our commitment to our chapter and this motto we are proud to introduce our official chapter logo.
Yours in sisterhood,
Luv Brown, Epistoleus

International Grand Basileus Deborah Catchings-Smith said it best “Service is a source of pride and a core value for our members and affiliates who are eager to make positive contributions in the areas where we live and work”. During the month of November, we participated in the kick off a month-long initiative to volunteer 7,000 community service hours with the plans of continuing this mindset of servitude throughout the year.
Our partnership with USA Swimming continues to raise awareness on the importance of swim safety. On December 3rd Lambda Sigma Sigma participated with other area Sorors at the Swim 1922 event held at the GA Tech aquatic center in Atlanta, GA. Not only were we blessed with our very own Olympian Soror Maritza McClendon but 3x former Olympic champion Rowdy Gaines also stopped by and spoke to us about swimming and what a wonderful program we had. Sorors were engaged and thoughtful. Lambda Sigma Sigma definitely "showed up and showed out"
Over the past year we have collected school supplies for Operation Big Book Bag, one of our national programs that focuses on providing school supplies to assist students in their educational endeavors. In 2017 we plan to host a back to school drive to distribute all that we have collected thus far.
One year ago on December 3rd Lambda Sigma Sigma welcomed sixteen women into Sigmaland and we would like to wish them a Happy 1st Sigmaversary!!!
