Breast Cancer Awareness


Poodles Energized in October!!!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Hattie McDaniel Cancer Awareness and Health Program is a national program for Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. In honor of our national program, Lambda Sigma Sigma Alumnae chapter participated in several initiates during the month of October 2018.

October 14, 2018 Lambda Sigma Sigma recognized breast cancer survivors in our chapter and honored them with beautiful gift baskets containing relaxation and spa items; The chapter Rhoers also honored the survivors with a gift basket.

On October 15, 2018, Lambda Sigma Sigma Alumnae chapter along with Soror Dr. P. Paulette Bragg’s Dance for Life company and J.P. Moseley Recreation Center, hosted the 4th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Zumbathon at the recreational center, in Stockbridge, Georgia. The Zumbathon allowed members of the public and sorors to really get physical to the most popular musical beats. A chapter display providing health education regarding cancer was also provided. This annual event promotes healthy living for all cancer survivors.

The City of Stockbridge hosted a Pretty In Pink event for breast cancer survivors and memories of those who embraced the journey of hope, love and joy. On October 18, 2018 The Pretty Hat Luncheon was held at Merle Manders Conference Center. An exceptional lunch was provided as well as health education by various speakers. National recording artist Glen Jones also serenaded the audience with several of his soulful tunes. Chapter survivors were registered for this event and received lunch at no cost. On October 19, 2019 The Love Walk was held at Clark Community Park. Sorors volunteered and participated for both events in the name of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Lambda Sigma Sigma Alumnae chapter.

October 22, 2018 found Sorors turning up in pink via clothing, social media, and “pinking it forward” in honor of breast cancer awareness.
